5 questions if you exist on social media or not

Monday, August 24, 2009

It is so easy deciding to exist or not to exist on social media with the 5 questions below:

* Responsibility, time management and investment are needed for social media existence. Do you have enough resources?

* Will you be able to ignore the unfair reviews, the complaints of a customer, who could not take what he wanted from other channels? Or will you start crying?

* Did you notice that to connect with the people who has experiences with your brand has more advantages than trying to catch new ones?

* Are you serious about crises management?

* Do you have a serious online road map? Or you just move and see what happens?

If you say "no" to one of these 5 questions, just stop and be a televiewer of the social media. Be sure that you will learn so much as a viewer. Just be a good televiewer and listener.

Say yes to summer with Coke Creatures

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Coca Cola is at the dance floor again with "Summertime" concept of "Open Happiness". I think "Open Happiness" is the biggest global slap of Coke to the enemy "Pepsi". Now, it is time to enrich this smart idea, even Pepsi and Coke sucks at localisation.

Now, it is time of Coke Creatures... The story tells us the adventure of 10 creatures in summertime around Europe. The commercial is enjoyable. And as an integrated campaign, digital part is also well produced. Web site has icons to share on twitter and facebook. At the same time creatures are actively communicating with the fans on their own facebook page. (774 fans right now). They also integrated a Flickr account to share and download the photos. The music was produced by Calvin Harris.

We will keep on watching and following the adventures of these 10 creatures and btw my fav is Lick. Coca Cola also designed 5 different cans for "Memorial Day". These 5 different cans will be on the shelves at the same time. This is a "first". And limited edition for sure! The designs are related to "summertime": a barbeque grill, surdboard, beach ball, sunglasses and stars&stripes

Coca Cola gave started to "summer" so fast. I am also still waiting for "the enemy" I guess we will have a funny "summertime".

Digital Gravestone

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Everthing changes... Right? The world changes and we -the people- are changing too as Keane sang in "Everybody's Changing"...

"I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same."

Do you feel the same as you were in the past? I don't. I' m sure you don't too. But don't worry, this post is not something that you will question yourself... This post is something fun, i promise...

Just think about the time, you spent at internet... You are reading your e-mails, answering or deleting or the worst one- forwarding, chatting by messenger, gtalk, facebook, etc..., networking, researching, surfing... The last one is the one that makes me feel hungry, sad, happy... In fact it is not me who surfs, it is my emotions... I m surfing via friendfeed and feeling so hungry when i see yummy sushi, whooper, noodle, ... I want them all!

What about the friendships? Before social networking, i was grouping my friends according to the education parts and the cities i lived in like: friends from primary school, high school, mba, Berlin, Wien, Strasbourg,Istanbul ... Now, friends from high school, uni, work, project, consulting, friendfeed, plaxo,...

Family life changed too... If i don't have an appointment with a client, i am checking my e-mails and daily to-do's before having a breakfast with mum. And i am starting my usual daily life on internet till i go to bed. Of course having dinner wtih my family, but after dinner everybody is keeping on the routines on internet. TV is on but nobody knows who watches it. I know! The cats watch... And the love is something more complex that i will write another post about it. Just a little clue: If he is a technology consultant, this means your love is so digital that you always feel it even you 2 are offline :)

So... We had a look at our lives... It is "digitalising" itself without permission... But i m so into death and graveyards... The question is "why are NOT our gravestones DIGITAL?"

I am waking up and the first thing to do is hugging my netbook, which is with me wherever i go. I will have an iphone, use gps for directions, prefer internet than tv, ... I will die as everyone and a marble-stone for my graveyard... Is this all? A stone? For all i did all my life long as a digital person? I am so sorry but i don't accept this!
This is my last will: A digital gravestone!

And a brief for my digital gravestone: elegant, stylish and touch screen...

I am not kidding. I am serious. I want a digital gravestone in which there is an ad server. I don't want my visitors feel tired by praying for me. I want these functions please:

- "Pray for" button: A sub-menu for different kinds of prays so that visitor can choose.

- Video recordable: Visitor can leave me a message

- Botego ve Sunumax services: Before i die, i will record a video in that i will explain "how to" with my gravestone.

- Adserver reports are including:

* From ... to ... (or in .. days) .. people walked through /nearby this graveyard.
* Todays visitors: ...
* This grave was visited ... times. ... of visitors prayed for her, ... of visitors left a message for her, ... of visitors watched the video.

(I will give a message here: This is important for the ads i will replace to my digital gravestone, so please click even you don't know me)

- Click for what she did in the world (this is a little about me section) and a sub navigation on ff, fb, blog, twitter,...

- Watch the videos about what people told about her after her death

- People who visited this grave also visited ...

- Last visitors

- Most frequent visitors

- I want "like, didn't like, loved, comment" properties as in ff. This will seem as a feed stream on the right side.

One of the most importants is that: People can remote pray or - comment without visiting the grave. No worries, adserver will count it too. People can watch my grave live 7/24 by a microsite.

Shortly, people have no chance to go on without me even after me :)

Ahh, for the ones who want to donate, "The shroud has no pockets" button.

Note: This post was inspired by a hotel ad at the corner of a graveyard in Antalya on the way to airport and i had a great conversation with great friends Harun Pekşen, Eren Kumcuoğlu and prof. Dr. Şule Özmen. This post is dedicated to these great 3 likeminded people.

This is a great ad series, so creative and smart... I think this one is the most interesting...

Brand logo tattoos mean engagement?

I don't know how close you are to combat sports but i really enjoy watching wrestling championships. And there is a great brand placement story in WWE. It is about Philipp Jack Brooks whose stage name is CM Punk.

He has an interesting life story. His father was an alcoholic and his childhood was not as a child dreamed. He started wrestling as his brother did. He quited the club as soon as he found out that his brother Mike had embezzled thousands of dollars from the small company, causing them to become estranged. He succeeded a great wrestling career and became the best. In his teenage, he accepted "straight edge" life style. Straight edge started within the hardcore punk sub-culture. A person who accepts this lifestyle always refrains from alcohol and tobacco products and drugs. CM Punk was a fan of hardcore punk band Minor Threat, which named "straight edge" term in a same named song in 1980.

Why am i writing about this guy?

cm_punk

He has a Pepsi logo tattoo on his left upper arm.And this is a topic, people are discussing about if it is a product placement or not. When the people discuss so much, it is usual to exist some urban legends. A few say that Pepsi tattoo was inspired by a fraternity joke. The others say that CM Punks brother and many fraternity members in his school had beer logo tattoos. And CM punk made a Pepsi logo tattoo to be different and to emphasize the straight edge. It is known that he is a keen Pepsi drinker.

CM Punk has a special move called as Pepsi Plunge. In June 2005, Punk accepted a deal with WME, after a try out match against Val Venis on its Sunday Night Heat Show. Although he accepted the deal, he went on to defeat Austin Aries with his Pepsi plunge move.

cm-punk

Pepsi logo tattoo became a symbol of CM Punk, which was used as the part of his Titantron entrance video.

According to wiki, this tattoo is a reference to former Minor Threat bands guitarist Brian Baker, who had a Coca Cola tattoo and explained this like "i like Coca Cola". CM Punk explained his own tatto likely, "I like Pepsi."

We are not sure if Pepsi placed the brand or not but we are all sure that Pepsi has sponsored some WME events, which some people think that this could be a reason for him getting the tattoo.

Even Pepsi made it or not, i think the best is that nobody knows if Punk made it on his own or not. This makes this move seem so mysterious that no one can tell "this is a sponsorship". There are some urban legends, people tell. And these make this "Pepsi logo tattoo" more viral.

twitter

I am not sure if i would have a "brand logo" tattoo. I guess i wouldn't. But a few days ago, i read that a man from USA tattooed a Twitter logo. Is not it strange? Would you do the same if you really loved a brand?

Can we call this as "great engagement of a brand to customer"?
